Photo Finish for Part of Children's Race

Jan. 5, 2008 — The 20th Annual Children's Race, which traditionally starts at the beginning of the Children’s Parade, proved an exciting and competitive affair Friday as runners trod the road along the festival parade route.
The first place finisher for boys 13 and under was Jamie Harper from Wilmington, Del. It was his first race in St. Croix, and his time was 2 minutes and 25 seconds. Malique Smith of the St. Croix Track Club, the winner of the under 10 division last year, moved up in the age grouping and chopped nearly a minute of his time in the 2007 race, finishing second in 2:29. Evan Wareheim of Country Day School was third in 3:13.
Karen Dascent of The Jr. Barracudas Track Club was the first place female 13 and under, with a time was 2:45; Jazmine Willock of the St. Croix Track Club was second in 2:58.
It was a very tight race for the under 10 boys as Barthtelemy Peter and Rodney Griffin of the SCTC crossed the finish line together for an official tie for first place in 2:59. De Quan Daniel of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club came across next with a time of 3:05, followed by Crispin Shakeem of Eulalie Rivera Elementary School in 3:11.
Mikaella Smith of the St. Croix Track Club took first place for girls under 10 with a time of 3:00; Stephaney Mathew of SCTC was second in 3:05 and Aniqua Benders of SCTC was third in 3:15.

The Finishers Boys Under 10
1.Barthtelemy Peter HFTC 2:59; 1. (tie) Rodney Griffin SCTC 2:59; 2. D’ Quan Daniel, HFTC 3:05; 3. Shakeem Crispin ERES 3:11; 4. Jackson Ronald Mill Valley, California 4:16; 5. Jamanie Daley EREC 3:14.
The Finisher Girls 13 and Under
1.Karen Dascent JBTC 2:45; 2. Jazmine Willock SCTC 2:58.
The Finishers Girls Under 10
1.Mikela Smith SCTC 3:00; 2.Stefany Mathew SCTC 3:05; 3. Aniqua Benders SCTC 3:15; 4. Dominique Willock, SCTC 3:24; 5. Yudelka Acevedo SCTC 3:39; 6. Cora Wareheim, CDS 4:32.
