Dec. 1, 2007 — In the Bob Owens Slow-pitch Softball league, 40 Caliber, Speak the Word Ministries and the Seaborne Stealers all came out winners in their respective games Friday at the D.C. Canegata ballpark.
In game one, 40 Caliber shocked the defending champions and previously undefeated Wyatt Heat, 12-11, behind the hitting and pitching of Steve Nisky. Nisky helped his own cause when he blasted a grand slam in his team’s nine-run second inning.
It was 40 Caliber, 12 runs on 20 hits with one error, while the Heat had 11 run on 13 hits and they committed no errors. Nisky got the win on the hill for 40 Caliber and David Oetken took the loss for the Heat.
Top hitters for 40 Caliber were Nisky, 1 for 3 with four RBIs, Benitez, 3 for 4 with three RBIs, and Luis Cintron was 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. For the Heat, Edwin Derweer was 3 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs, and Dwayne Harvey was 2 for 3.
In game two, Speak the Word Ministries put 17 run on the board in the first two innings, then held off a late charge by Cross Tech to win 23-17 in six innings contest.
It was Speak the Word with 23 runs on 23 hits with no errors, while Cross Tech had 18 runs on 22 hits while committing one error. The winning pitcher was Allan Woods, while Bill Harris got the loss for Cross Tech.

In the nightcap, former champions Seaborne Stealers exploded for 15 runs in the first inning and went on to pummel the Divi Carina Bay Dolphins, 30-11. The rains briefly interrupted play during the Stealers long first inning, but then unmercifully stopped and the onslaught continued. The undefeated Stealers once again look to be one of the league’s top contenders for the crown this year.

Angel Torres led the Stealers offensive outburst, going 4 for 5 with three home runs and eight RBIs, Ronald Schjang Jr. was 3 for 4 with two home runs and seven RBIs, and Freddie Pimentel was 4 for 4 with six RBIs.
