Dear Source:
If you want to destroy the economy of the US Virgin Islands and the business community, then by all means institute this ill-planned VIWMA EUF. The legislature and the governor made a grave mistake in 2004 when they created this new level of government bureaucracy and allowing for this type of financial disaster system. There have been many proposals (most of them very worthwhile) to correct our solid waste problem. The government has failed to follow through on any of these plans, which have led to our current solid waste situation. I know that you also have the 30% increase in LEAC fees on your agenda today. While I know that very few of us can afford that kind of additional cost of electricity, I also understand WAPA's need for this increase. To add the EUF on top of that increase will definitely shut down many VI businesses and will put those of us on limited income (especially those of us on Social Security) in a position where we will no longer be able to afford to live in the islands.
Please reject the EUF totally, not just put the proposal on the back burner.
