You Win Some, You Lose Some: Code 9 Splits Double Header

Oct. 15, 2007 — The Hovensa Slow Pitch Softball league’s regular season came to an end over the weekend with Code 9 having to play a double header.
In their first game, Code 9 blasted the Cartel by a score of 17-4. Code 9 had 17 runs on 19 hits with three errors, and the Cartel had four runs on nine hits with two errors. Danny Rosa picked up the win for Code 9, while Samuel Ramos took the loss for the Cartel.
Top hitters for the winners were Angel Guzman, 4 for 4 with two home runs and eight RBIs, and Angel Soto, 3 for 3 with two RBIs. For the Cartel, Wayne Scotland went 1 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs and Reginald Pigott went 2 for 2 with one RBI.
In game two, Code 9 had the tables turned on them as they got whipped by the league-leading, undefeated Wyatt Heat. The Heat amassed 13 runs on 18 hits with just one error, while Code 9 had one run on six hits while committing three errors.
Heat ace David Oetken picked up the win on the mound, while Ian Lewis got the loss for Code 9. The Heat was led at the plate by Spencer Hendrickson, who went 3 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, and Edwin Derweer, 2 for 2 with two RBIs. For Code 9, Kenneth O’Donoghue went 1 for 2 with one RBI and Ian Lewis went 1 for 2.
The league’s playoffs begin Tuesday.
