St. Croix All Stars Crush Guayama Team on Puerto Rico Tour

Oct. 6, 2007 — After playing to a rain-interrupted 6-6 tie on Friday, the St. Croix Elmo Plaskett 16-18 All Stars blasted the Guayama Cardinals by a score of 16-2 Saturday afternoon in Guayama, Puerto Rico. The All Stars, on a four-game tour of Puerto Rico, will conclude their trip on Sunday with a doubleheader.
The All Stars wasted little time getting on the board, scoring four runs in the first inning, highlighted by Angel Torres’ 2-run double and a single by Michael Flemming.
In the second inning, James Sneed’s two-run double made the score 6-0 after two innings.
The Crucians continued their offensive onslaught in the third inning, scoring two runs on a towering two-run blast over the 365-feet sign off the bat of Jose Rivera Jr. to lead 8-0 after three completed innings.
The All Stars’ Leo King kept the Cardinals in check until some sloppy play in the fourth accounted for two unearned runs.
The All Stars put the game away in the sixth inning, scoring four runs on the strength of a triple by Samuel Rodney and a double by Steve Simmonds Jr. for an insurmountable 12-2 lead.
Rodney’s second triple of the game and singles by Rivera and King accounted for the final four runs of the game in the top of the seventh. Angel Cruz relieved All Stars starter King and struck out the side in order for the final three outs of the game.
The St. Croix All Stars had 16 runs on 18 hits with 3 errors, while for the Cardinals; it was two runs on two hits with no errors. King allowed two hits in picking up the win on the hill for the Crucians.
Top hitters for the St. Croix All Stars were James Sneed, 3 for 3 with two RBIs, Jose Rivera 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs, Rodney, 2 for 3 with two triples and four RBIs, Shakeel Newton, 3 for 3, Carl Bolling was 2 for 4 with an RBI.
