Sept. 26, 2007 – A Police Department officer stationed on St. John committed suicide Wednesday morning inside an office at the Leander Jurgen Police Station in Cruz Bay.
The incident happened at 6:15 a.m., according to a news release from the V.I. Police Department.
The department is not releasing the officer's name, however sources said he was a freshman officer, having recently completed his first year on the force.
The news release indicates the officer used his department-issued firearm.
District Police Chief Rodney Querrard, Deputy Chief Darren Foy and investigators remain at the scene collecting information.
Government House spokesman Jean Greaux said more information will be available later in the day.
