Sept. 24, 2007 – Delegate to Congress Donna Christensen today extended her condolences to the family of Clarence "Cherra" Heyliger this week in Florida. "For many years, "Cherra" as he was known by one and all was the voice of sports on St. Croix,"said Christensen on Friday. He was well known for his weekly column in the St. Croix Avis and for his radio sports program on WSTX where he made known the exploits of local sports legends from Little League players to national heroes and champions in boxing, baseball and basketball.
Christensen said that "Cherra" had a great memory and shared his knowledge of things cultural, past and present,, especially as it related to his beloved town of Frederiksted. "We will miss his remembrance of days gone by, but are grateful that he provided a written record of local people and events," the Delegate said. "He was also a Democratic Party stalwart and worked as a legislative media aide for many years."
Delegate Christensen extended her condolences to his wife Eunice, his children and grandchildren and his circle of family and friends. "May he rest in peace," she said.
