Energy Events Planned
The V.I. Energy Office, a division of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources, has many events scheduled throughout the Virgin Islands for Energy Awareness Month. The theme for the month of October is "Clean and Green: For a Secure Energy Future."
The Energy Office will be following up on programs residents have shown a lively interest in and will be incorporating new ones.
A recent showing of the film Saved by the Sun on St. Croix at UVI campus attracted about 70 interested viewers. The Energy Office plans a showing at St. Thomas UVI campus on Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. There will also be a double feature on St. Croix at the Caribbean Community Theater starting at 5 p.m. on a Sunday in October. The theater is a very comfortable venue that was home to a large crowd when the Energy Office showed An Inconvenient Truth in April.
The V.I. Energy Office is looking for a venue to show films on St. John.
Energy staff will also be reaching directly into community organizations. Energy speakers will be speaking at the St. Croix Chamber on Oct. 17 and the St. John Rotary on Oct. 5 about "Financing Solar Projects."
Details on these and many other outreaches will be available on the Energy Office website at www.vienergy.org
Life Off the Grid on St. Croix
The V.I. Energy Office web site also has a new story today about life off the grid and how good it feels not to pay a Water and Power Authority bill. The web site will also soon allow residents to view a video of the St. Croix home powered by solar and wind energy.
Virgin Islanders Cleaning Up Beaches
