Innovative and the Boy Scouts Invite Children to Fishing Tournament

Aug. 23, 2007 – The annual Innovative Boy Scouts Handline Fishing Tournament is set for 9 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 26, at the American Yacht Harbor Marina in Red Hook, according to officials from Innovative and the Virgin Islands Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
The tournament, which is sponsored every year by Innovative to benefit the Boy Scouts, is in its 17th year. All children under 18 are invited to this tournament, which is free of charge. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The event will end with an awards ceremony shortly after noon.
The Boy Scouts will be hosting the weeklong United States Virgin Islands Open – Atlantic Blue Marlin Tournament that is held during the handline event.
“We recognize there are not enough entertaining activities for our children in the territory, so we take pleasure in hosting this annual event that not only provides a fun time for the children, but also teaches them the fundamentals of fishing,” said Virgin Islands Council Executive Director Matt Holmes. “We urge parents on St. Thomas to bring their children to the American Yacht Harbor Marina on Sunday and we’ll make sure they enjoy themselves. We’ll give the young anglers the handline and bait to fish off the docks for the chance to win a prize in several of the contests of the day.”
The awards will be for the “ugliest” fish, the “longest” fish, the “heaviest” fish, and the “most” fish, among others. Prizes include rod and reels, and bicycles.
