June 2, 2007 – Gov. John P. deJongh Jr. has extended congratulations to St. Croix native and San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan on his efforts in powering his team to the NBA finals. The Spurs victory on Wednesday night over the Utah Jazz sets up the team's fourth appearance in the finals in nine years.
"Tim Duncan's performance on the court Wednesday night is indicative of how serious the Spurs are about getting back into the NBA finals." The Spurs have won the national championship in 1999, 2003 and 2005, deJongh noted. "I wish Tim Duncan and his team mates the very best as they head into the finals against either the Detroit Pistons or the Cleveland Cavaliers." The Spurs clinched the Western Conference title in San Antonio, the finals begin on Thursday, June 7, 2007.
