May 15, 2007 – Senator Neville James on Tuesday commended Gov. John P. de Jongh Jr., for his selection of three accomplished and qualified individuals to fill vacancies in his cabinet.
"The individuals selected – Claudette J. Watson-Anderson; Finance Commissioner; Debra Gottlieb as Director of the Office of Management and Budget and Austin Nibbs as Executive Assistant Finance Commissioner – are well qualified to hold their respective posts and I commend Gov. de Jongh for his thorough and thoughtful selections," said Senator James.
While Senator James expressed his approval of the nominees he took the opportunity to remind the governor of several other pressing issues which have yet to be resolved.
Senator James asked the governor "not to take lightly" his previous requests to refocus attention on improving the Christiansted infrastructure; expand the Watergut road which has become a major thoroughfare into the downtown shopping district; begin the long awaited Christiansted bypass; and complete renovations to the Toro Building on Miracle Mile.
Additionally, Senator James reminded the governor of his March 28th correspondence asking de Jongh to separate the Department of Corrections from the Justice Department.
"The Attorney General's main responsibility should be investigating and prosecuting criminal offences not being the head jailer of those he prosecuted. I ask the governor to move swiftly on these pressing issues." concluded Senator James.
