Senators Must Represent Society as a Whole

Dear Source:

Catherine Fahy's statement "I think it's important that you vote the way we hire you to vote," is representative of those that wrongly believe that everything must go exactly their way. Officials are not "hired" nor paid to vote a particular way, at least not in our great country.
She and her other typically intolerant associates should remember that elected officials represent society as a whole and are often tasked with making difficult decisions certain to be at times unpopular with some residents.
Despite the angry responses from persons such Ms. Fahy there are those, myself included, that believe that a project such a Sirenusa adds quality to St. John.
Those who are so opposed to any development are amongst the "I've got mine already and you can't join me on my private island" crowd.
Where were these people when projects of much lesser quality such as Lavender Hill were being built? Imagine if Ms. Fahy's home was the subject of such unwarranted attacks when it was being developed. Where would she be living now?
St. John is not a deserted, uncharted island. Nor is it an exclusive enclave for only those like Ms. Fahy because they arrived earlier. It will be developed regardless of emotional outbursts.
Current property owners have a right to develop their parcels like those that have done so earlier. Sen. Carmen Wesselhoft deserves much credit for voting her conscience.
Ms. Fahy, the last I checked we still live in a great democracy. The only one ruining your life is yourself. Why not spend some of that idle time and energy you must have on helping improve the island's school or beautifying the downtown area?
