Flags at Half-staff to Honor Victims of Virginia Tech Tragedy

April 18, 2007 — Gov. John deJongh Jr. on Wednesday directed V.I. flags on all public buildings in the territory be flown at half-staff out of respect for those who lost their lives Monday during the tragedy on the campus of Virginia Tech University.
DeJongh’s actions are consistent with a proclamation Tuesday in which President George W. Bush ordered the American flag flown at half-staff on all public buildings until sunset, Sunday April 22.
In a letter Tuesday to Virginia Gov. Timothy Kaine, deJongh expressed sympathies on behalf of the V.I. community. “Our prayers go out to all enduring this time of great sorrow and pain," deJongh said.
Both the American and V.I. flags will return to full-staff on the morning of Monday, April 23.
