With the Raises Comes a Level of Responsibility

Dear Source:
I agree with Jill Lange that Friday's ED&AC session was an important one for St. Croix. I want to know why the absentee principals decided they had more important functions to attend.
I have been a supporter of the raises for the Senators and the top members of the Executive branch. These raises will serve as a two-edged sword for the sitting senators. One edge gives them no financial excuses for not getting the job done; the other edge assures that there will be ample qualified applicants for their job come next election. This means their cutting edge better be sharp. When I talk about a cutting edge, I'm not talking a machete; I'm talking communication and technology. As pretty as the Senate website is, it is lacking in specificity. I have looked, but cannot find individual email addresses for individual senators.
Why doesn't every sitting elected official have a Blog-with room for comments and a separate email address? If you're going to demand leading edge wages, you must supply leading edge methods of functionality and interaction. Maybe the missing legislators had sufficient reason to miss Friday's session; yet how are we supposed to know? I do know there are multiple, cheap and simple methods available to keep their constituents informed. Why aren't they being utilized? If the senators wish to prove themselves worthy of the price tag they have placed upon their position, they had better be willing to step up to the plate and produce. If not, they have assured themselves of staunch competition. Competition who will be willing to use more than talk-show innuendo and market rumor to keep the public aware of their priorities and reasons for their action or inaction. Step into the 21st century, please!
On a completely different aside. I wish to thank Jimi Weber for his respectfulness and his sense of humor. Too often we all take ourselves way too seriously. While I concede the process of government is serious, one of the critical and positive aspects the human race has been gifted with is a sense of humor. Most of us suffer from a lack of exercise for those smiling muscles and I want to thank Jimi for making me smile from time to time while listening to the senate hearings. I also appreciate Senator White's humorous comments-although they are usually couched with stern warnings.
