March 14, 2007 — The U.S. Department of Justice has nominated a retired chief bankruptcy judge from Texas to examine the personal finances of Innovative Telephone owner Jeffrey Prosser in conjunction with Prosser's ongoing bankruptcy proceedings.
The nomination of Steven A. Felsenthal by the Office of the U.S. Trustee (an arm of the Justice Department) is subject to confirmation by the bankruptcy judge sitting on the case, Judith Fitzgerald.
Earlier in the case, Fitzgerald had issued an order calling for the U.S. Trustee to nominate someone for this task.
Felsenthal, now a shareholder in a major Dallas law firm, spent 18 years on the bench, first as a bankruptcy judge and then as the chief bankruptcy judge for the Dallas court.
Following his undergraduate studies at Tulane, Felsenthal secured his law degree at the University of Wisconsin, where he was editor of the law review.
Felsenthal's task will be to clarify the state of Prosser's finances, which have been the subject of complex and conflicting testimony throughout the bankruptcy proceedings.
