March 7, 2007 – Attorney General (Designee) Vincent F. Frazer thanks the members of our community who serve as jurors in the People's case against former police officer, Joel Dowdye. Attorney General Frazer stated he appreciates the tremendous sacrifice made by these sixteen individuals and their families, while they served on this jury for seven straight days. The people of the Virgin Islands owes a debt of gratitude to these conscientious citizens who helped to maintain our standard of justice.
The defendant is always entitled to be judged by a jury of his peers, as a constitutional right. These jurors were willing to step forward and provide a great service to our community.
Attorney General Frazer also thanked Assistant Attorneys General Cornelius Williams, Jr. and Nolan Paige and other staff members of the Department of Justice Special Investigation Division and the General Litigation Services for their hard work and excellent performance of their duties. These employees's work in this case, is an exemplary of the level of enthusiasm and commitment that the community can expect from the Department of Justice in every case.
Additional thanks must go to the Commissioner of Police, James McCall, whose resources proved invaluable in assuring that justice was served. Through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosive Facilities and expertise, evidence was processed, preserved and testified to in court
Attorney General Frazer also wants the community to be assured that Department of Justice will take Domestic Violence cases seriously and vigorous prosecution will be the rule. "We urge the community to find non violent ways to resolve their conflicts with their love ones", stated Frazer.
