Lady Caribs Tame Lady Tigers 60-42 to Win Tourney

Feb. 19, 2007 — The Central High Lady Caribs won their own Central High Basketball Tournament on Sunday with a 60-42 whipping of the Country Day School Lady Tigers.
Shawna Moving, the Caribs' diminutive point guard, was voted tournament MVP as she did it on both ends of the court, defensively and offensively.
The game started out as if it was going to be a very close contest, with the score knotted at nine at the end of the first quarter. Of the nine points scored by the Lady Tigers, seven came off the fingertips of point guard Rebekah Seifer.
The lady Caribs opened the second quarter with a press that stifled the Lady Tigers offensively, resulting in numerous turnovers that led to easy Carib baskets. A balanced second-quarter Lady Caribs' attack, led by seven points from Shekaisha Wenner, saw the Caribs outscore the tigers 17-8 in the period to take a 26-17 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Lady Caribs put the game away in the third quarter and, for all intents and purposes, the only thing left to decide was the margin of victory. Using a balanced attack, the Caribs' outscored the Lady Tigers 19-10 in the third to take an 18- point lead at 45-27 heading into the final quarter.
The Lady Tigers, never saying die, fought hard in the final period, but every time they made a little run the Lady Caribs would answer. With victory assured, the Lady Caribs took their feet off the gas and cruised to a relatively easy championship win.
The Lady Caribs were led by Sherise Joseph, who netted 18 points. Moving chipped in with 11 and Ashley George had eight. For the Lady Tigers, Chenae Rogers netted 14 points and teammate Seifer contributed 11.
