UVI Board Extends President Ragster's Contract

June 24, 2006 – The University of the Virgin Islands' Board of Trustees approved a two-year extension of President LaVerne E. Ragster's contract at the board's quarterly meeting, held Saturday on the St. Thomas campus.
Ragster's contract would have expired in July 2007.
Saturday's meeting was attended by all 15 members of the Board of Trustees, including Gov. Charles W. Turnbull, a UVI Professor Emeritus and honorary chairman.
"This is the first meeting in a year that has not conflicted with some other assignment, mostly off-island," Gov. Turnbull said. "I am happy to be here."
Board Chairman Auguste E. Rimpel Jr. and Vice-Chairman Alexander Moorhead were re-elected for the 2006-07 academic year.
In other business, the board voted unanimously to authorize the leasing of 93 acres in Kings Quarter, St. Croix, to the UVI Research and Technology Park. The lease stipulates that the research park will rent the land from the university for 50 years.
The board also approved tenure requests of six faculty members: Ophelia Powell Torres, Bruce Wray, Marc Boumedine, Rosalie Dance, Eustace Esdaille and Malik Sekou.
