Eugene H. Eglin Dies in Florida at 93

April 24, 2006 — Eugene H. Eglin, 93, died April 20 in Florida. Born in New Bedford, Mass. on Feb 24, 1913, Eglin moved to St Thomas in 1952. He delivered water to homes all over St. Thomas for many years and was respected by many for his kindness, generosity, freindliness and quick humor. He and his wife, Margaret, moved to Florida in 1997.
He was a Mason for 50 years, a Master Mason in the Scottish Rite, a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and the Royal Order of Jesters. He was also a charter member of the Virgin Islands Game Fishing Club.
His survivors include his wife, Margaret, sister, Helen Ekstrom, daughters, Linda Hart and Tina Mayes, their husbands, Mike Meola and Ron Mayes, 5 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and best friends, Patricia and Frank Illich, as well as many other dear friends. His son, Eugene H. Eglin, Jr. of Chatham, New York, died in 1988 at the age of 46.
Because of his love for St. Thomas, where he enjoyed the best years of his life, he will have a burial at sea there.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 29 at New Hope Lutheran Church, 870 Hollywood Blvd., West Melbourne, Fla.
