Pistarckle Presents 'Stars After School Youth Theatre'

March 17, 2006 – Tickets are on sale for the first Stars After School Youth Theatre Program's original production, "How to School Your Parents: Rockin' the World Kid-Style."
Since October, students ages 7 to 15 from ten different schools have come together after school to learn acting, dancing, playwriting, goal-setting, teamwork and more. The students have written the majority of the script for their own production, resulting in a play that reflects the students' voices and thoughts more than any other single play could have. In the next month, the students will be heavily involved in set design and building, publicity and ticket sales, making this truly their own creation.
The production uses elements from "Macbeth," Shel Silverstein poetry and the 1960s television shows "Get Smart" and "Laugh-In." The show "links the adult world to the kid world", one STAR said, though there are no adults in the performance. One of the students described the show as "the expression of life from your kids eyes." It answers the question "What's the difference?" between the two worlds, and focuses on "How [kids] see life."
There will be a pay-as-you-can performance at 7 p.m., on Thursday, March 30. There will be regular performances on Friday, March 31, and Saturday, April 1, as well as two matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, April 1 and April 2. Every student who attends will get a free raffle ticket with a chance to win a pizza.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for students, $15 for VIP seats. Students in groups of ten or more that are accompanied by an adult are just $5 each. They are available at Marina Market (Red Hook), Draughting Shaft (Havensight), Beans, Bytes and Web sites (downtown), or through the Pistarckle Theater box office at 775-7877.
