Local musicians to open for Sample at Reichhold

Jan. 11, 2006 — Top local jazz musicians will open for pianist Joe Sample this weekend at the Reichhold Center for the Arts. The concert is scheduled for Jan. 14.
Local musicians Louis Taylor (piano), Ron Nimmo (vocals), Cliff Finch (bass), Winnie Phillip (guitar) and Tommy Pilgrim (percussion) will open the show that night. Tennessee-native Bill Hurd will join them on saxophone.
Taylor, who plays keyboard and piano, has performed around the world, opening for Melba Moore, Ellis Marsalis, Lou Rawls, and David Brubeck.
Nimmo has performed many times at the Reichhold Center, including STARFEST and the Virgin Islands Music Festival.
Finch and Phillip have also traveled and performed extensively.
Sample is a jazz pianist and composer. He was a founding member of the 1950’s Jazz Crusaders and has studied jazz history, an area that influences his own performances today. Sample's recordings include Rainbow Seeker, Carmel, Voices in the Rain, Spellbound, Ashes to Ashes, Invitation, and more. He has performed with including Marvin Gaye, Tina Turner, BB King, Eric Clapton and other noted musicians.
