Sailors Race Around St. Croix During Weekend

Nov. 22, 2005 — The St. Croix Yacht Club sponsored its annual Around St. Croix Race on Nov. 12 and 13. Participants started the race in front of the Buccaneer Hotel and raced east, around Point Udall to Sunset Grill in Frederiksted. Day two began in Frederiksted and sailors raced upwind to finish at Pull Point.
In a press release Tuesday, the St. Croix Yacht Club officials congratulated "all who braved the blustery weather to support this event and we hope to see everyone out again next year."
The winners were:
Jib & Main Class
1st Place- Cruzan Time, Carl Beckstedt
2nd Place- Living on Cloud Nine, Jason Beasley
3rd Place- Wishful Thinking, Vincenzo Amrosi
Spinnaker Class
1st Place- Cruzan Confusion, Cecy Castrucio-DeRue
2nd Place- El Shaddai II, Jeff Fangmann
Multi-hull
1st Place- Charis, Llewellyn Westerman
2nd Place- Shaka, Richard Peterson
3rd Place- Piglet, Joe SanMartin
Bomba Perpetual Trophy (Best Corrected time by a Monohull)
Cruzan Confusion, Cecy Castrucio-DeRue (9:8:21)
Wilfred Allick Perpetual Trophy (Best Elapsed Time)
Charis, Llewellyn Westerman (6:33:20)
