Oct. 5, 2005 – A manhole is overflowing in Gallows Bay.
Dean C. Plaskett, commissioner of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources, said in a press release Wednesday that the Division of Environmental Protection has investigated the incident concerning a manhole located in the middle of Garden Street.
The release said it is overflowing with sewage. The sewage is pooling in some areas before entering a nearby storm drain.
DPNR is advising the public to avoid the area especially children and adults with compromised immune systems. Standing or running water in these areas may contain contaminants or pollutants harmful to human health.
The release said DPNR would continue to monitor the area. For information regarding water quality call the DEP at 773-1082.
