Aug. 30, 2005 – On Tuesday the Skål Club of St. Thomas presented back packs filled with back-to- school necessities to their adopted class at Dober Elementary School.
Skål began this activity with the Dober students when they were kindergartners in 2004, supplying them with similar packs at the beginning of the school year and gifts at December holiday time.
The group plans to follow the class at least until their Dober School graduation –– not only with similar gifts, but also with mentoring activities geared to the hospitality industry throughout the year, according to a release from the organization.
Skål is an international, invitational group of travel and tourism professionals representing hotels, airlines, travel agents, car rental agencies, destination management companies and a myriad of other hospitality components. The local group is currently headed by Mario Austin of Budget Rent A Car, president; Reggie Poe of Paradise Travel, vice president; Lisa Hamilton, Marriott Frenchman's Reef, secretary and Mary Gleason, Hospitality Consulting Services, treasurer.
