Aug. 18, 2005 – An arrest has been made in the death of 53-year-old Lloyd Noorhassan. Noorhassan was found dead near an abandoned car wash in the vicinity of Sunny Isle plaza on Aug. 2. Police originally thought he died of natural causes but an autopsy determined that the death was a result of blows to the body.
Police Commissioner Elton Lewis said Wednesday that Alfred Cordice was arrested after an investigation. Cordice, a 50 year-old male resident of Estate Strawberry Hills, was charged with involuntary manslaughter.
According to the police report, Cordice is alleged to have been involved in a game with Noorhassan, leading to him being struck several times about the abdomen. After striking the victim, Cordice left him to make a purchase, returned and found him lying on the ground believing Noorhassan was asleep, Cordice left him again. Noorhassan was found unconscious on the ground and was later transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital where he subsequently died. This alleged incident took place in the area of the abandon car wash near the Diamond Crest Shopping Center.
Lewis also stated that an autopsy revealed that Noorhassan had died as a result of blunt force trauma to the rib area. The strikes to the body caused internal bleeding that possibly lead to. Noorhassan's death. The Superior Court Judge Daryl Donahue set Cordice's bail at $25,000.00. Unable to post bail; Cordice was remanded to the Golden Grove Correctional Facility.
Lewis added that police detectives are continuing to investigate this and other incidents to locate those who may have been involved. "All people are presumed to be innocent until found guilty in a court of law," concluded Lewis.
