Aug. 7, 2005 Two men were gunned down Saturday morning in La Grand Princess, one died.
According to police reports, police dispatch received a call at 5:09 a.m. regarding a shooting in La Grand Princesse near the 2+2 nightclub. Police found two men in the area who had been shot.
One was a Hispanic male who was down, on the southwest corner of the Boyce Hardware building. He was not responsive. The other was a black male who was down in the parking area of the 2+2 nightclub. Emergency medical technicians arrived shortly after and rendered assistance.
The police report went on to say the Hispanic male was examined and did not have vital signs. He succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head. He was identified as 22-year-old Samuel Rodriguez, a resident of Estate Paradise, he was subsequently transported from the scene and pronounced dead at 8:15 a.m. by an emergency room physician.
The second victim, who had multiple wounds, was transported to the Juan Luis Hospital emergency room by ambulance and was scheduled to undergo surgery. He was identified as 23-year-old Phillmore Isaac, a resident of Paradise.
According to Herminio Velazquez, deputy police chief, the victims were getting into a Ford Explorer, parked facing east on the northern side of North Shore Road, next to the Boyce Hardware building when they were assaulted.
A suspect, 23-year-old Hillary Taylor, a resident of Estate Barren Spot, Christiansted, was contacted and met with detectives at the Ann Schrader Police Command Post. He was questioned and arrested at 1:10 p.m. on murder first degree, plus assault first degree, reckless endangerment, and possession of an unlicensed firearm during the commission of a violent crime. He is being held without bail.
The motive, according to Velazquez, appears to be an ongoing feud between Taylor and one of the victims.
This is the 24th homicided in the Virgin Islands this year.
The police department is appealing to the public to call 778-2211 with any information that may assist in the investigation of this case.
