Library Workshops

Thanks to the overwhelming response received last December, The Forum and The Department of Planning and Natural Resources/Division of Libraries is sponsoring 7 more Children's Storytelling and Bookmaking Workshops this summer throughout the Virgin Islands. The workshops are for 3rd and 4thgraders and give the children the opportunity to collectively create astory that will include on-the-spot illustrations. The children are then led through the process of turning their story into a published book. By the end of the two-hour session, each child will leave with his or her very own bound and illustrated storybook.
This proven program, led by a group of visiting professionals from non-profits, 826Valencia in San Francisco and 826NYC in New York, is designed to inspire and teach children the joys ofwriting, drawing and storytelling. Additionally, two training sessions will be held for teachers and any other parties interested in conducting these workshops in the future. Each session is limited to 20 children and a place must be reserved in advance by calling the contact person below. This program is funded in part by a grant from the Virgin Islands Humanities Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities with additional support from FirstBank Virgin Islands and The Rotary Club of St. John.
