June 10, 2005 – The V.I. Tennis Association has named Eugene Highfield, Christian Nelthropp, Jereme Cumbermack, and Whitney McFarlane as VITA's 2005 Davis Cup team which will represent the Virgin Islands this July in Group 4 competition of the Americas in Costa Rica.
Shane Dalton has been selected first alternate and George Lewis as team coach. Highfield, the territories seasoned Davis Cup player, leads the young team of players that qualified through a series of round-robin matches held during Memorial Day weekend at the Tennis Club of St. Croix.
McFarlane is from St. Thomas. The rest of the players are from St. Croix.
The V.I. Tennis Association includes players from all three islands. It has a total membership of about 250 players.
