Brief: Financial Aid Available for Summer Camp Hopefuls

June 8, 2005 – Thanks to the Department of Human Services, children in low-income families are eligible for financial assistance to attend the summer camp of their choice on St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John. Funding for children, from elementary through high school, will be provided by the department's Office of Child Care and Regulatory Services.
The criteria for qualification are simple. According to Office Director Brenda Walwyn, the office "looks at household income and family size."
"We are happy to be able to serve the parents and children for the summer," Walwyn said, adding that during the summer months the children need something constructive to do.
Lists of summer camps are available at Child Care and Regulatory Services.
For more information or to apply for financial assistance on St. Croix, call 773-2323, ext. 2048; on St. Thomas-St. John, call 774-0930, ext. 4181. The deadline is July 15.
