Police Identify Waterfront Accident Victim

April 12, 2005 – A man who died Monday morning in a Waterfront auto accident has been identified as John Alexander, 48. A second occupant, who escaped the vehicle unharmed after it plunged into the harbor, was identified as Raymond Gumbs.
According to police authorities, the men were working on a yacht on the Waterfront when they left to grab a bite to eat. While driving west along Veteran's Drive, Alexander shouted out that he was having severe chest pains. He let go of the wheel and grabbed his chest, causing the Suzuki sedan to veer left off the Waterfront bulkhead.
Despite the efforts of rescue workers, Alexander was pronounced dead on arrival at Roy L. Schneider Hospital shortly after 9 a.m. Monday, according to hospital administrator Maureen Venzen.
