Masters Runners Take Titles in UVI 5K Run/Walk

March 13, 2005 – Marlon Williams, four-time Olympian and now a masters competitor, led the field of more than 60 runners and walkers to the finish line in the fourth annual UVI/Queen Mary Highway 5K Run/Walk on March 11.
Moving out east on Queen Mary Highway to the "Avenue of Palms," Williams reached the finish line on the St. Croix Campus of the University of the Virgin Islands with a time of 17 minutes and 36 seconds. Paul Erickson took second in 19:07 and Mike Klein was third in 19:11. Errol Chichester was the first UVI alumnus male with a time of 22:33 and Ephraim Rodriques was the first UVI male employee in 24:19.
Country Day School Spanish teacher Theresa Harper, two-time medalist in the Central America and Caribbean Cross-Country Championships and also a masters competitor, continued her winning ways, leading the women across the finish line in 21 minutes and 1 second. Tisha Distad took second in 22:23 and Earthla Augustin was third and the first UVI alumna female in 23:12. Jennifer Spillman was the first UVI female employee in 24:34.
The event celebrates the anniversary of the founding of the University of the Virgin Islands, and this year kicked off UVI's 2005 Charter Week celebrating UVI's 43rd anniversary. The event was hosted by UVI's St. Croix Campus and organized by The Virgin Islands Pace Runners.
