Leewards Rushes Windwards in Friday Cricket Match

Feb. 4, 2005 — The Leewards batsmen took advantage of early fielding mistakes by the Windward, running up a 252 for 8 day-one score in the Carib Beer Series cricket match at Cancryn Cricket Grounds on St. Thomas
Friday.
Both opening Leewards batsmen scored half-centuries before the first wicket fell and the Windwards quickly avenged a string of dropped balls and failed stops.

Tonito Willett returned from lunch and quickly drove his 39 up to 51 before being bowled by medium-pacer Darren Sammy.
Carl Simon was not out with 9 at the end of the first day of the four-day match.
Wilden Cornwall was caught by the Windwards wicketkeeper at 33 and
Stuart Williams was dismissed with 43.
Several Virgin Islands senators attended the match, introduced by Gov. Charles W. Turnbull.
Play resumes Saturday at 10 a.m.
