Memorial Service for George Robert Tyger

Jan. 18, 2005 – George Robert Tyger, long time resident of St. Croix, died Dec. 13, 2004 in San Rafael, Calif. at age 82. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Doyle; daughter, Helen; and brother, William.
Tyger was born March 16, 1922 in Youngstown, Ohio to George and Helen Holtz-Tyger. He graduated from South High School in 1940, and enlisted in the Navy in 1941 where he served on the USS New York until 1945.
Tyger married Doyle on Sept. 8, 1944. He owned Tyger Trucking, and was an interstate truck driver for Tri-county Distributors until he retired in 1970. In 1965, he bought B&B Marine, eastern Ohio's largest dive shop, which is still operating under the direction of his son, Robert.
Tyger moved to St. Croix in 1972, and worked for Tracor Marine and General Offshore as chief engineer and captain for 20 years.
Friends of Tyger are invited to attend a memorial service from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23 at the St. Croix Yacht Club, Teague Bay on East End Road. Refreshments will be served following the service.
