I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the staff and administration of the St. Croix Educational Complex on the implementation of stricter rules and regulations governing school dress codes, security, and parental involvement.
My daughter is an entering 9th grader, and we, too, were turned away at the gate on Friday. (See The Long and Short of It: School Code Being Enforced.) (I wasn't aware that "knife pleats" meant pleats that were stitched down! … now, I am!)
While being denied admittance may have been met by some as a negative, it brought much comfort to me in providing assurance that this administration "means business" in the enforcement of school policies. It is encouraging and refreshing to know that Mr. [Kurt] Vialet and his administration, educators, support staff and campus security are intent on maintaining control of the student population and focusing on the priorities of education, parental involvement, and the rules and due respect governing these areas.
While some students are "banking" on the hopes that the regulations put in place will soon be less monitored than they are now, I, however, am "banking" on this school's administration maintaining their stance. In doing so they are sending out a much-needed message to the students and the community — a message that will have only positive results, no matter how trying it may be to maintain!
I wish the students, parents, faculty, staff and administration a wonderfully successful year. They're on the right track, and I, for one, will show support in any way that I can. Keep up the good work!
