UVI Professor, Student and Alumna Perform in Paris
UVI professor of music Dr. Lorna C. Young-Wright, founder and director of Polymnia, a chamber choral ensemble, presented a choral concert in Paris, France, on July 3, at the Eglise Réformée de Paris. Under Dr. Young-Wright's direction, Polymnia presented Mozart's Coronation Mass in C, Schubert's Mass in G, and a collection of spirituals with the Spiritual Workshop Choir, a Parisian choral ensemble dedicated to the study and performance of the Negro spiritual.
Notable performances included those of UVI student and soprano soloist Detra Davis and UVI graduate and soprano soloist Shaneel Richards. Polymnia received outstanding reviews and an invitation to return in November 2005. Polymnia will present works from the Paris concert at Saints Peter & Paul Cathedral in Charlotte Amalie at 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26. For more information call Young-Wright at 693-1191.
Visiting Marine Scientists to Lecture on Research Aug. 20 at UVI
An afternoon of lectures featuring the studies of five marine scientists currently working in the U.S. Virgin Islands will be held from 3 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 20, in Chase Auditorium (Business Education Room 110) on the St. Thomas campus. The session will be videoconferenced to Evans Center Room 401 on the St. Croix campus. Four of the scientists are from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and are studying the conditions of coral reefs on St. John. The fifth scientist, a researcher from the National Center for Natural Products Research, is working on St. Thomas to explore potential biomedical uses of substances in a variety of marine organisms.

UVI's CDC Provides Planning Maps for Territory
UVI's Conservation Data Center, in conjunction with the V.I. Planning and Natural Resources Department and the Lieutenant Governor's Office has completed the update and automation of the Comprehensive Land and Water Use Plan maps for the territory. The maps are being unveiled at legislative public hearings that began Aug. 18 and continue on Aug. 24 and Sept. 8. For details, read the full News Release on the UVI Web site. Dale Hendricks' Photographs on Display at Reichhold Center for the Arts
A collection of works by native Virgin Islands photographer Dale Hendricks is on display at UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts through September. The collection is titled "The Best of Dale Hendricks" and includes primarily black and white images dating back to the 1960s. Hendricks received formal training in photography at HY Zauzula Studio, Parsons School of Design and the School of Visual Arts in New York City. The Reichhold gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and during performances. For more information call 693-1563.
Comedy Jam Scheduled Aug. 27 on St. Croix Campus
The UVI Student Government Association and Student Activities Office on the St. Croix campus will sponsor a comedy jam at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27. The jam will feature comedians Marcus Wiley, Vyck Cooley, Rod Z and Darian Perkins. Tickets are $10 in advance from the UVI Bookstore and $15 at the door. The show will be performed in the Student Center on the St. Croix campus. A poster for the event can be viewed from the "Latest Links" section of the UVI Web site www.uvi.edu.
