Fort to Host Emancipation Poetry Slam on July 23

July 20, 2004 – The Fort Frederik Museum is presenting the St. Croix Freedom Words Poetry Slam in commemoration of the 156th anniversary of Emancipation. The evening of literary entertainment will take place on Friday beginning at 6 p.m. at the museum and is open to the public.
All poets and other spoken-word artists are invited to take part. Those wishing to do so are asked to sign up by 5:45 p.m. Friday at the museum. Participants will get five minutes apiece to make their presentations.
The poetry slam is being sponsored in part by the V.I. Council on the Arts, the Planning and Natural Resources Department, the V.I. Historic Preservation Office and the Fort Frederik Museum.
