Jun 10, 2004 – The University of the Virgin Islands Bulletin Board issued today has these announcements:

UVI Relay for Life Teams Seek Participants, Contributions
Members of the UVI community are encouraged to join a UVI team and support the 2004 Relay for Life cancer fund-raiser. This year's Relay takes place from 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, through 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 27, at the Charlotte Amalie High School track. Teams are composed of 15 persons, with each member expected to raise $100. Teams must have at least one member walking or running on the track for the duration of the event. UVI has a goal of forming two teams this year. Everyone is invited to join a team or make a monetary contribution. Every contribution, no matter what the size, is important. Participants will be treated to a variety of entertainment during the Relay, including fashion shows and music. Academic Testing Scheduled for St. Thomas Campus June 12 and 14

CES Urban Forestry Conference Set for June 14-18 on St. John
UVI's Cooperative Extension Service will conduct the ninth annual Caribbean Urban Forestry Conference on St. John from Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18. The theme for this year's conference is "Managing the Caribbean Urban and Community Forest." The conference will be jointly sponsored by the CES, V.I. Agriculture Department, and the USDA Forest Service/ International Institute of Tropical Forestry. For more information call 692-4060.
Seminars to Outline Best Products and Services for Small Businesses
The UVI Small Business Development Center will offer a seminar entitled "The Best Products and Services of the Small Business Administration" from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16, at the V.I. Legislature Conference Room, Cruz Bay, St. John, and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 17, at the SBDC Training Facility at Nisky Center on St. Thomas. The seminar, hosted in collaboration with the U.S. Small Business Administration, is designed to introduce products and services available to those starting and growing businesses. Admission is free. Please pre-register by Tuesday, June 15, for the St. John seminar and by Wednesday, June 16, for the St. Thomas seminar. For details call 776-3206.
Free Homeland Security Training Sessions Offered for St. Thomas, St.
Croix
UVI's Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning Center and the V.I. Law Enforcement Planning Commission will offer a 40-hour Homeland Security Training course in six individual sessions on both St. Thomas and St. Croix during June, July and August. The course, which is free, is designed for a wide variety of first responders from police, fire and emergency medical personnel to those in private security companies, governmental offices and more. Each course session — which is limited to 30 participants — will cover threat awareness and suggested actions to mitigate the effects of an act of terrorism.
Five of the course sessions for each island will be held on Mondays through Fridays. A final session will meet on five alternating Saturdays.
On St. Thomas: Week-day courses will begin on June 14, July 12, July 26, August 9 and August 23. Saturday course series will begin on June 19.
On St. Croix: Weekday courses will begin on June 21, July 19, August 2,
August 16 and August 30. Saturday courses will begin on June 26.

Homeland Training to Involve Outdoor Drills on St. Thomas Campus
The six Homeland Training Courses to be conducted this summer on UVI's St. Thomas campus will involve outdoor drill activities on the final day of each course. Drills are expected to involve the presence of emergency vehicles as well as individuals dressed in protective clothing. The drills will take place outside the UVI Sports and Fitness Center on the following Fridays – June 18, July 16, July 30, August 13 and August 27, and on Saturday, August 28. Similar drills will be conducted with the St. Croix courses; however, the drill activity will not take place on the St. Croix campus. For more information call 693-1106.
Humanities Division Soliciting Instructor Resumes
The UVI humanities division on the St. Thomas campus is soliciting resumes from individuals who are qualified to teach any of the following courses: basic design, survey of world art, selected problems in world art, basic drawing, painting, design, drawing, oil painting and arts and crafts for elementary teachers. Summer Art Institute for Children with Disabilities Offered on St. Thomas
A free Summer Art Institute for children with disabilities will be offered to youngsters on Saturdays from June 19 through July 24 on St. Thomas. Sponsored by UVI's V.I. University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, the workshop is open to youngsters between ages eight and 15. Instruction in creative drawing and painting is planned. Artist Lucinda Schutt will be the instructor. Classes will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturdays at Roy Lester Schneider Hospital. Space in the workshop is limited. Summer Computer Institute for Individuals with Disabilities Offered on St. Thomas
A free Summer Computer Institute for individuals with disabilities will be offered on St. Thomas from June 21 through July 30. Sponsored by UVI's V.I. University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, the institute will teach basic computer operation, how to use e-mail and the Internet, and how to operate various computer programs. All individuals with disabilities are invited to participate. The program will also accommodate the visually impaired. Classes will be conducted from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the VIUCEDD Resources Center in the Teacher Education Building on UVI's St. Thomas campus.
