Dear Editor,
As a concern citizen of ST. Croix, I personally feel that the police officers (some) should be weeded out and replaced by people who want to do the job of protecting the people and being good role models. Too many police officers are only doing the job for the money, not because they want to serve the people. I say because of what I was told by an officer while I was visiting. Every night someone was shot, but the officers are always too late at the scene to even get a promising lead. The Virgin Islands are not New York or a big city, so we need to look at what our officers are doing closely. Money and equipment will always be an issue, but we should do our best at fixing our problem. We have too many good soldiers leaving the military that could be good officers but we are not encouraged to do that because the department is not recruiting the right way. I plan one day in changing this Police department once I'm out of the military.
