Dear Source,
I am shocked and appalled at the Carnival Committee's response to the legislature to be audited. The taxpayers have a right to know how their money is being spent!!! First, Mr. Callender, Blake and Gumbs lie about not knowing about the May 25th meeting, then when they do show up to the June 4th meeting claim they do not know how much money is the bank, but yet say that there is not enough to pay vendors. Who are they kidding? This is why the government is constantly broke. They are under no obligation to give money to the committee, but do so out of tradition. This is not a bad thing. The attitude of these gentlemen, however, is that the government should give them all the money they want, but should ask no questions at all, even if those funds are being mismanaged. That's highway robbery!! Does the law say that the government must, give them money? The government should not give another dime unless a balance sheet is produced.
