Dear Source,
The PSC decision is nothing less than a flagrant and deplorable example of government support of an abusive monopoly. It is so tragic that the largest company in the USVI can shamelessly manipulate the government so that it can charge outrageous prices with complete impunity. The government that is supposed to PROTECT its citizens from commercial abuse does exactly the opposite: it protects the company that is engaged in the commercial abuse. If the USVI government had any moral spine whatsoever it would allow free and open competition just like virtually every other marketplace in the free world and let the market conditions prevail. The age of government support for monopolistic behavior passed 20 years ago, when will the USVI government get its head out of the clouds?
