May 30, 2004 – The U.S. Coast Guard has promoted Electronics Chief Warrant Officer Alvin Dalmida Jr. to lieutenant. His promotion and pinning ceremony was officiated by Rear Admiral Stephen W. Rochon, Deputy Assistant Commandant for
Intelligence and Communications, and Captain Curtis L. Dubay, Commanding Officer Coast Guard Navigation Center.
Both senior officers congratulated Dalmida for a job well done.
During the ceremony, Admiral Rochon commented on Dalmida's efforts and outreach in the U.S. Virgin Islands which has led students to scholarships for the Coast Guard Academy and enlisted opportunities. He travels annually with other Virgin Islanders serving in the Coast Guard to tell the "Coast Guard Story" with the community and conduct outreach.
Currently, Dalmida is an assistant project officer for the Nationwide Differential Global Positioning System at the Navigation Center, Alexandria, Va. In July, he will be assigned as a project officer at the Coast Guard Telecommunication Information System Command in Alexandria. He will manage Very High Frequency radio systems and other secure radio-telecommunications systems for operational Coast Guard units in support of Homeland Security initiatives.
In a statement, Dalmida wrote: "I am very humbled by this promotion … there are a lot of people to thank for my successes — my wife and son, my family, friends, and fellow shipmates. … Most importantly, this one is for those that may follow the paths led by distinguished servicemen and women across the nation and especially those that may follow from the U.S. Virgin Islands."
His military career spans 22 years and includes tours at Operation Bahamas Turks and Caicos, U.S. Embassy, Nassau, Bahamas; Military Liaison Office, U.S. Embassy, Bridgetown, Barbados and Technical Assistance Field Team, Puerto Rico; Coast Guard Cutter Thetis and Mobile Aerostat Program, Key West, Fla.; Advance Electronics C7 School, San Diego, Cal.; Long Range Aid to Navigation Stations, Sellia Marina, Italy and Estartit, Spain; Coast Guard Cutter Tamaroa, Governor's Island, N.Y., and Coast Guard Cutter Point Franklin, Cape May, N.J.
His numerous military decorations include a Joint Service Commendation Medal, a Coast Guard Achievement Medal, two Commandant's Letters of Commendation, and six Coast Guard Good Conduct Medals.
Dalmida lives in Burke, Va., with his wife, Dawn, and son, Alexander.
