May 11, 2004 – The annual convention of the V.I. Parent Teacher Student Association is set for May 29 at the St. Croix Education Complex, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Education Commissioner Noreen Michael said in a release that collaboration between the Education Department and the V.I. PTSA "further augments the department's commitment and efforts to encourage and promote parental involvement. This is an ideal opportunity for education personnel to network with parents, other educators and PTA members."
The conference theme is "Enhancing the Parent in PTA." Linda Hodge, National Parent Teacher Association president, will be the guest speaker and also will conduct a workshop on "Parent Involvement in Elementary and Secondary Education Act."
The convention is open to the public. Margarita Benjamin, V.I. PTSA president, said. "I strongly encourage all residents to take advantage of this rare opportunity to come out and hear what we have to say about how PTAs and PTSAs can help our schools and community," she said.
The registration fee of $25 for NPTA members and $35 for others includes lunch and workshops. For more information, contact any school PTA officer or call 643-7492.
