April 23, 2004 – The Reichhold Center for the Arts is offering a three-week Digital Video Workshop for Adults that begins May 10.
St. Thomian Edward LaBorde Jr., who co-wrote, produced and directed the motion picture "Me and Mrs. Jones" that was shown at the Reichhold Center last fall, is the workshop instructor.
Sessions will be held three evenings a week – from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays — at the center on the University of the Virgin Islands St. Thomas campus.
Participants will learn the basic concepts of video production – camera operation and composition, lighting, and editing using Final Cut Pro video production software.
"The most immediate reason for the adult class is demand," David Edgecombe, Reichhold director, said. Ever since the center offered its first Youth Moviemaking Workshop in 2001, adults have been asking for a class, too, he said.
According to Edgecombe, "It will be an intense three-week period," with the number of participants limited to optimize one-on-one interaction.
The cost of the workshop is $500, which includes the use of equipment.
The adult workshop plays a part in Edgecombe's goals of increasing the film and video literacy of the people of the Virgin Islands and turning the Reichhold Center into a place bustling with students involved in creative work.
Like the Youth Moviemaking Workshop, the training for adults is intended to be offered on an ongoing basis, he said.
