April 22, 2004 – The University of the Virgin Islands Bulletin Board issued today has these announcements:

UVI Carnival Troupe Practice Continuing
Practice sessions for UVI's 2004 Carnival Troupe continue each Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 5 p.m. at the Dining Pavilion on the St. Thomas campus. Individuals interested in participating can visit a practice or get more information on the UVI Carnival Troupe Web page on the UVI home page (link below).
St. Thomas Campus Students Voting for Student Representative to UVI Board
The 2004-2005 student representative to the UVI Board of Trustees will be elected from the St. Croix campus. The candidate is Jay Wiltshire. Voting by students on the St. Thomas campus began on April 21 and continues Friday, April 23. Voting takes place at the student affairs office between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (Voting has already been concluded on the St. Croix campus.) Student representation alternates between the St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses. Andrea Kiddo, from the St. Thomas campus, is the current student representative on the Board of Trustees. She will serve through the June 2004 meeting.
St. Croix Campus Student Awards Program Set for Saturday, April 24
The 30th Annual Student Awards program on the St. Croix campus is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, April 24, in the Cafetorium. The program will recognize academic achievement, scholarship, service and student leadership. This is a formal event and heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served. For more information contact Associate Chancellor Claude Steele at 692-4181.
UVI to Administer Foreign Service Written Examination on April 24
UVI will administer a Foreign Service Written Examination from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 24. The examination will take place in the Freshman Center – Room 118 of the Classroom Administration Building on UVI's St. Thomas campus. For details call 693-1152.
UVI Students Elect 20 to Student Government Positions
Twenty UVI students — eight on St. Croix and 12 on St. Thomas — have won positions in student government in recently concluded elections. Kimberly Edwards was elected student government president on the St. Croix campus, while Ivan Connor won the top post on the St. Thomas campus. Freshmen senators will be elected during fall semester orientation. Office of Lieutenant Governor Sponsors Logo Contest
UVI students and others are invited to participate in a contest to design a logo for use in the upcoming commemorative event, "Hamilton: The Formative Years." The event is set for July 9-12 on St. Croix. It is designed to commemorate the boyhood years that founding father Alexander Hamilton, who helped draft the U.S. Constitution, spent on St. Croix. The logo contest is sponsored by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. A $500 cash prize will go to the winner. The deadline for entries is April 30. St. Thomas Students Advised on Mail Box Key Return Policies
The Student Affairs Office on the UVI St. Thomas campus has announced that Monday, May 17, is the deadline to return mailbox keys. Student summer mail can be picked up from the Student Activities Office when summer classes are in session. Students not returning for the fall semester are reminded to leave self-addressed labels to allow mail forwarding to U.S. addresses. Students should also begin notifying mail senders of their change of address, including the effective date. Call 693-1111 for more information.
April Issue of dateline: UVI Now Available Online
The April 2004 edition of dateline: UVI — a monthly newsletter — is now available on the UVI Web site. The newsletter includes stories and photos from the recent Humanities Festival on the St. Croix campus and from the recent UVI Employee Awards Ceremonies which honored 33 employees.
UVI Registration for Fall 2004 Extended through Sunday, May 9
UVI has announced that online registration for continuing students for the Fall 2004 semester has been extended through May 9. Returning UVI students register via the Internet using personal identification numbers that are provided by faculty advisers. They access registration forms by logging on to banweb.uvi.edu. Students who need a PIN should contact their advisers. Individuals experiencing difficulties with online registration should contact the Registrar's Office at 693-1160 on St. Thomas or the Academic Services Office at 692-4158 on St. Croix.

St. Thomas Campus Academic Awards Program Set for May 6
The 2004 Academic Awards program on UVI's St. Thomas campus is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, May 6, at the Sports and Fitness Center. The program will honor top students in each grade level and include the presentation of major scholarships. A reception will follow. For more information contact Associate Chancellor Dr. Doris Battiste at 693-1121.
UVI Nursing Students to Display Posters at Tutu Park Mall on April 28
UVI bachelor of nursing science students will present a poster display on injury prevention among children in the center court of the Tutu Park Mall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28. The goal of this project is to expand knowledge of injury prevention while promoting preventative health as an essential component of childcare. Posters will be displayed on a wide range of topics including stranger danger, sun safety, safety around animals, choking prevention, first aid and car seat safety. For details contact UVI nursing professor Dr. Doris W. Campbell at 693-1295.
Golden Key Induction Ceremony Set for May 4 on St. Croix
The UVI St. Thomas and St. Croix campus chapters of the Golden Key International Honor Society are celebrating their 10th anniversaries this year. An induction ceremony and dinner for the St. Croix campus chapter will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, at the Carambola Beach Resort. Fifteen new members are scheduled to be inducted. Everyone who plans to attend the induction and dinner must RSVP by April 23 to Chapter adviser Miriam Osborne-Elliott at 692-4187. The cost is $30. To become a member of the society students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.3. Seventeen students were inducted into St. Thomas campus Golden Key chapter on April 4.
Mathematics Skills Exams Set May 7 on St. Thomas

s on the St. Thomas campus is scheduled for 3 to 5 p.m. May 7. The exam will be offered in the CA Building. For more information call 693-1253. The final exam schedule for St. Croix campus students will be announced when available.
UVI Spring Concert Set for May 8 at Charlotte Amalie High School
UVI's music area will present its annual Spring Concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at the Charlotte Amalie High School auditorium. The concert is titled "An Evening at the Opera and Broadway." It will feature familiar tunes like the "Habanera" and "Summertime." Well-known songs from Broadway's "Phantom of the Opera," "Cats," and "Pocahontas" will also be performed. The UVI Concert Choir, St. Thomas Community Voice Students and the UVI Concert Band will also be featured. Tickets — $10 for adults and $5 for students — are available at the UVI Bookstore and Humanities Division, Krystal and Gifts Galore in Tutu Park Mall and Dockside Bookshop at Havensight Mall.
STARfest 10 Scheduled for May 8-9; Spin Off into TV Series Planned
STARfest — "The Virgin Islands' Best Show" — returns to center stage at UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts with shows at 8 p.m. May 8 and 9. Noting that this will be STARfest's 10th anniversary, Reichhold director David Edgecombe promises "a really exciting show with more pizzazz than ever before." Class of 2004 Plans Spring Ball on May 15
The St. Thomas campus graduating class of 2004 will hold a spring ball — "A Night of Sheer Elegance" — at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at the Westin Hotel on St. John. The ball is sponsored by the class' social and cultural committee and the UVI Alumni Affairs Office. Tickets are $35 until May 3 and $40 thereafter. Tickets are available from graduating class members, the Student Affairs Office and from Dockside Books in Havensight Mall. For more information call 776-9200 extension 2672 or 693-1046.
SBDC Offers Personal Development Workshops in April
The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will conduct a seminar on "Financial Management: The Need for Disability Insurance and Proper Business Planning" on Tuesday, April 27, from 5:45-8 p.m. at the UVI SBDC Training Center located in the Sunshine Mall (lower level) St. Croix. Admissions $15 with pre-registration ($20 at the door).
