MIRACLE BABIES SENDING NURSES TO CONFERENCE

April 16, 2004 – Two nurses in the Roy L. Schneider Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit — Enid Lettsome and Vonetta Winston — will be attending the National Conference of Neonatal Nursing next week in San Francisco.
The Miracle Babies Support Foundation is sponsoring the trip by paying for airfare, room and board, and conference fees. According to a hospital release, the two nurses leave St. Thomas on Monday for the conference.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for our nurses to learn the latest techniques in this rapidly changing field," Dr. Beverly Banks-Randall, head of the hospital's neonatal unit, said. "We are extremely pleased and grateful to the Miracle Babies foundation for continuing to support our efforts to provide quality care for the most fragile patients of all."
According to Cleone A. Boston, foundation president, "This is just another way to improve and enhance the care of premature babies in the territory by ensuring the staff of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is always equipped with the latest knowledge and expertise in their areas of specialty."
Boston and three other St. Thomas mothers whose babies were born prematurely formed the foundation in 2001. At a fundraiser last September, the group raised more than $10,000 for the hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
