April 15, 2004 The Charlotte Amalie Class of 2000 has found a way to reunite its members far and near, the use of Microsoft Network Messenger. The group will be using the instant messaging system to conduct online class meetings.
This is "a place where classmates can keep in touch," Class President Abdul Liburd said Wednesday. "Right now I'm trying to get my class to be an active class and gain status as a nonprofit organization."
The first online meeting will take place April 24 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. for class members with Hotmail or MSN accounts. The group will hold a physical meeting on April 18 on the bleachers at Joseph Aubain Ballpark in Frenchtown from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
At that meeting e-mail addresses will be exchanged and those of classmates abroad will be given in preparation for the online meeting. The group will also form committees.
The class of 2000 had 400 members graduate. Liburd said "a good number" is abroad at school. "This is a key way of keeping in touch with them and let the member know what's going on with the active group in St. Thomas."
