April 13, 2004 – For those who haven't finished their income-tax returns but are determined not to file for an extension despite the looming April 15 deadline, the U.S. Postal Service is doing what it can to help.
The deadline for posting returns to both the V.I. Internal Revenue Bureau and the federal Internal Revenue Service is midnight Thursday. Until the clock strikes twelve, taxpayers will be able to drop off their envelopes at one post office each on St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John and officially get in under the wire.
The post office locations are:
St. Thomas – Sugar Estate
St. Croix – Kingshill
St. John – Cruz Bay
"All mail deposited in the collection pans located in the front of each designated post office up to the midnight tax deadline" will be dispatched with an April 15 cancellation, postmaster Louis A. Jackson said in a release issued on Tuesday.
He urged late filers to be sure to provide the correct mailing address and sufficient postage.
For more information, call 774-1950 on St. Thomas, 778-0199 on St. Croix or 779-4227 on St. John.
