Feb. 26, 2004 – The University of the Virgin Islands Bulletin Board issued today has these announcements:
UVI Alum Featured on Reality TV Program Scheduled Saturday
UVI alumna Jacqueline Chapel-Hardy recently participated in a Discovery Health Channel reality TV program that will be broadcast locally on Saturday. Chapel-Hardy, who earned an MBA from UVI in 1994, was one of the "age busters" starring in "Ten Years Younger." The program challenged five people living in Miami to turn back the biological clock, utilizing help from scientists and health care experts. Chapel-Hardy embarked on rigorous workouts, a diet excluding her favorite thing (candy), and consultations with a dermatologist and a psychiatrist. The aim was to look and feel 10 years younger in 10 weeks.
"Ten Years Younger" will air at 11 a.m. and noon on Saturday, Feb. 28 on Discovery Health, Channel 41, on St. Thomas, and on Channel 49, on St. Croix. The show will replay at the same time and on the same channels on March 28.
The 51-year-old Chapel-Hardy now says she actually feels 20 years younger. "Now I feel like I'm in my 30s. I feel like a young girl." Chapel-Hardy was to be a guest on Radio One's Afternoon Mix with host Raul Carillo at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 26. Chapel-Hardy, who also worked as a UVI instructor, is currently a computer security officer and systems administrator at Cunard Line Ltd. in Miami.
UVI Commencement Dates Set; Regalia Orders Encouraged
UVI's 2004 commencement exercises are scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, on St. Thomas, and for 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 23, on St. Croix. Members of the faculty and professional staff who need to order regalia in order to participate in commencement are encouraged to place orders as soon as possible through the UVI Bookstores on St. Thomas and St. Croix.
UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts Opens Season with Jeffrey Osborne
R&B and soul legend Jeffrey Osborne opens the 25th anniversary season of UVI's Reichhold Center with a performance at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 28. Tickets are $65 (but that price is sold out), $45 and $30 and are available at the Reichhold
Center Box Office, Parrot Fish (Back Street), Krystal Gifts Galore (Tutu Park Mall), the UVI Bookstore and at all Modern Music Stores.

American Sign Language Class on St. Thomas to Begin March 3
A class in American Sign Language – Level 1 – will be offered by the V.I. University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities beginning Wednesday, March 3, on UVI's St. Thomas campus. This is an enrichment class and not for academic credit. It is open to anyone interested in learning sign language. The cost will be $125 per semester.
Stephanie Brown will be the instructor. Classes will be held from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays through June. To register or obtain more information, visit the VIUCEDD office in the Teacher Education Building (Room T-106) or call 693-1188 by Monday, March 1.
UVI Carnival Troupe Participation Drive Set for March 2
UVI's community engagement committee will conduct a Carnival Troupe Information and Participation Drive from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, at the Dining Pavilion on the St. Thomas Campus. Costume sketches for UVI's 2004 entry in the St. Thomas Carnival adults' parade will be on display. Committee members will be on hand to discuss costume prices, sign-up requirements and upcoming fund-raisers. All members of the UVI community are encouraged to participate in the UVI Carnival entry. Carnival Troupe Food Sale Scheduled March 3 at Sports and Fitness Center
A food sale to generate funds for UVI's Carnival entry will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3, in front of the Sports and Fitness Center. Main dishes will be chicken, mutton, roast pork, salmon balls, and fried and steamed fish. Side dishes are rice, macaroni, potato salad, potato stuffing, vegetarian lasagna, cole slaw and Johnny cake. The vegetables will be plantain, mixed vegetables and tossed salad. Peas soup will also be featured.
Tickets are $7 for meat/poultry/vegetarian, $10 for fish/salmon balls and $5 for peas soup. Purchase tickets at the St. Thomas campus Chancellor's office and from committee members. Free on-campus food delivery will be available. Make arrangements for delivery when tickets are purchased.
Other fund-raisers are being planned.
UVI Sets Spring Open House on St. Thomas Campus for March 5
UVI has scheduled its spring open house for prospective students on the St. Thomas campus on Friday, March 5. The open house will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the UVI Sports and Fitness Center. Representatives from all academic divisions, admissions, financial aid, housing and other university departments will be available to discuss their offerings. Approximately 200 students are expected to attend.
Some highlights of the day will be face-to-face meetings between students and faculty members, tours, laboratory experiments, displays by the various academic divisions and interactive exercises. Parents are urged to have their children contact school counselors to make sure they can participate in this chance to learn more about the university. Applications to UVI will also be accepted during the open house. The deadline for applications for the fall semester is April 30, 2004. For more information call 693-1160.
Senior Recital of Pannist Eltino Pickering Set March 7
The UVI Humanities Division has announced that pannist Eltino S. Pickering will perform a senior recital at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, in the auditorium of the Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School. The public is invited. Admission is free. For more information call 693-1192.
UVI Staff Council to Meet March 9
The next meeting of the UVI Staff Council is scheduled for noon on Tuesday, March 9. All members of the UVI non-teaching staff are encouraged to attend. The meeting will be videoconferenced between Chase Auditorium (Business Education room 110) on the St. Thomas campus and the Theater (Evans Center room 401) on the St. Croix campus. Afternoon On The Green Set March 14; Volunteer Cooks Needed
UVI is gearing up for the 15th anniversary Afternoon on the Green — St. Thomas' premiere food, family and fun event. Afternoon on the Green will be held from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, on the Herman E. Moore Golf Course. The theme for this year's event is "Cuisines Galore for 2004." Volunteer cooks are still needed for this event. Interested individuals should contact UVI's Institutional Advancement Office at 693-1040.
UVI Plans 'Day at Tutu Park Mall' for March 20
UVI will conduct an informational "Day At Tutu Park Mall" from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 20. University administrators, faculty members and students will be on hand to share a personal snapshot of UVI's numerous academic and special program offerings. Information regarding admissions procedures, financial aid and housing options will also be available. Admissions applications will also be accepted during the day.
CLEP Proficiency Tests Scheduled March 25 on St. Thomas
UVI will offer College-Level Examination Program tests on Thursday, March 25, on the St. Thomas campus. The deadline for students to register for these CLEP tests is Friday, Feb. 27, at the Division of Enrollment Management Office, second floor of the CA Building on the St. Thomas Campus. CLEP tests are available in a variety of subjects, such as Spanish, French, history, accounting, business administration, computer information systems, chemi
stry, literature, math, economics and sociology. A complete list is included in the UVI Catalog on pages 27 and 28 (Access to the Catalog is available on the UVI Web site. Call 693-1150 for further information.
CLEP testing is offered on UVI's St. Thomas campus in March, June and October. CLEP tests are offered by the academic services office on the St. Croix campus. The next CLEP tests on St. Croix are scheduled for either June or July. The exact date will be announced later. For more information on St. Croix, call 692-4103.

St. Croix Campus Activities
Friday, March 19
— Queen Mary 5K Walk/Run – Help celebrate UVI Charter Day. Course starts at Kmart "West" and ends on St. Croix campus. For details call 692-4110.
Saturday, March 27
— UVI Spring Banquet and Ball – The 13th annual Spring Banquet and Ball will be held on the St. Croix campus. Tickets are $25 per person and $30 per couple. Details will be announced as they become available.
SBDC-BIR Seminar on Filing Business Taxes Set for St. John, St. Thomas
A seminar titled "Filing Your 2003 Business Taxes" will be offered by UVI's
Small Business Development Center and the V.I. Internal Revenue Bureau on St. Thomas and St. John. The St. John session is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25, in the V.I. Legislature conference room in Cruz Bay.
The St. Thomas seminar will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, at the UVI-SBDC training facility at Nisky Center. Seminar topics will include: tax changes for 2003, how to compute your taxes, which local and federal taxes apply, how to file your business taxes accurately, how returns are selected for audit. The seminar is free. Please pre-register by Monday, Feb. 23, for the St. John seminar and Tuesday, March 2, for the St. Thomas seminar. Seminar on QuickBooks Pro 2001 Offered March 9 by SBDC on St. Croix
UVI's Small Business Development Center will conduct a seminar entitled "Discovering QuickBooks Pro 2001" from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9, at the SBDC training center located in Sunshine Mall (lower level) on St. Croix.
Admission for those who pre-register is $15. Registration at the door is $20. Admission is free for UVI employees and students, but pre-registration is requested. Space in this seminar is limited. To secure a space, registration fee must be received by Friday, March 5. For more information or to register, contact UVI-SBDC at 692-5270.
