Red Hook Community Alliance (RHCA)
Feb. 25, 2004 – Senator Lorraine L. Berry stated today she trusts in the wisdom of the Public Works Department to pay heed to the needs of the Red Hook Community Alliance (RHCA) as stated in her February 20th letter to Commissioner Wayne Callwood.
Berry declared the RHCA has been instrumental in monumental endeavors to improve the quality of life on the East End and she heartily supports their request to construct raised crosswalks. These, she told Commissioner Callwood, are calculated "to protect residents, tourists and students from the very real danger of another tragic motor vehicle accident in the Red Hook area."
In support of their pleas, Berry has noted the RHCA has long been a well-organized community action group, always highly active and intricately involved in enhancing the quality of life for the residents and multitude of tourists who frequent the Red Hook area.
Concluded Berry, "It behooves the government to respect the needs of a community, particularly when it has consistently demonstrated it does its part to help itself."
