Feb. 2, 2004 If you're interested in helping to forge a town council, the St. John Community Foundation wants you.
"We feel that there are people on island who probably had experience with town government and may have served on a city council," foundation director Carol DeSenne said.
At a town meeting last December, Gov. Charles Turnbull told the foundation that he wanted help in giving St. John more autonomy. The foundation has taken the governor's request to heart and is running with the idea.
"He seemed to feel he needed some assistance," DeSenne, said.
According to DeSenne, the foundation will begin developing a proposal of how a town council could work on St. John, adding that the foundation's efforts are for St. John alone — not for St. Thomas and St. Croix.
Anyone interested in joining the foundation committee should contact DeSenne by Feb. 20. Call 693-9410, email , or write to P.O. Box 1020, St. John, VI 00831.
